Day Two: Hello, My Name is Eve (Genesis 3:6)

"The woman was convinced.

She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her.

So she took some of the fruit and ate it..."

Genesis 3:6, NLT (emphasis, mine)

Oh, Eve.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had that thought.

Oh, Eve. Why'd you have to go and screw everything up.

Too harsh?
Maybe.
Because now I'm realizing that we have a lot more in common than I previously thought.

As I was reading through these verses the Holy Spirit told me to fill in the blanks- literally.

Like this:

"She                             and she wanted the                            it would give her.

Change the word "wisdom" out with a few other adjectives and now it's starting to sound too familiar:

She sent the text because she wanted the satisfaction it would give her.
She gossiped about a friend because wanted the pride it would give her.
She flaunted on Facebook because she wanted the attention it would give her.

Sin starts when we decide to get our needs met outside of Christ.

Every sin I've ever committed was because I wanted the                             it would give me.

Like Eve, I "was convinced".

Satan is a liar. And he'll do whatever he can to convince us that the end result is worth the sin it takes to get us there.

What areas of my life have I become convinced? Where do I need to convince myself with the truth that Jesus can fulfill my every need and desire, instead of falling for a false substitute?

Dwelling in Him,
